This Shivan temple is a one of the Paadal Petra Thalams. ( The Paadal Petra Thalam are 275 temples that are revered in the verses of Saiva Nayanar's in the 6th-9th century CE.)
This Shivalinga is Swayambhulinga.
There are nine types of hindu temple structures, amongst them, Karakkoil also called Amruthkadeshwarar temple,this temple Vimana is in Chariot like structure.
The structure is pulled by horses looks an enchanting appearance.
The temple is finely sculptured with many purana stories like Ramayana, Krishnaleela, Nayanmar stories and other stories and other stories of Lord shiva
